Obituary

Kenneth Charles Hess, of Detroit, Michigan/Sarasota, FL passed away on December 2nd surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 3rd, 1940 to Marvin and Catherine Hess in Detroit, followed by sister Sharon and twin brothers, David and Douglas. Ken attended and graduated from East Detroit High School where he met the love of his life, Ursula Ann Hickmott (Su). He was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962 and toured Asia and the Pacific. Ken and Su were married in 1962, moved back to East Detroit and had two children, Daniel and Kelly. In 1969, the family moved to Warren where they made life long friends and still maintain a home.

Ken worked in finance, starting at Chrysler Credit and eventually managing auto dealerships before starting his own marketing company. He was very active in church (Peace and then Hope United Church of Christ), taking his Christian responsibilities very seriously. Ken worked with the Salvation Army to help others and continued that work throughout his life. He and Su maintained two cottages, one in Deckerville, MI and another on Avery Lake near Atlanta, MI where the family and friends spent many weeks together. Ken enjoyed travel, fishing, drawing, Detroit sports and playing cards with friends.

Ken worked very hard to ensure his family was taken care of and happy. He was always there when you needed him, day or night. For his family, he rarely missed an event; soccer games, dance recitals, piano recitals, basketball games, plays, musical performances…he and Su were there. His absence will be greatly felt.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Su; children Daniel (Lynn) Hess and Kelly (Phil) Zwierzchowski; grandchildren, Tyler, Evan (Veronica), Dylan, Shane, Campbell, Samantha, Madelyn and Peyton and siblings David (Sandi) and Douglas (Katherine).

There will be a visitation on January 4th, at 10:00 AM, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 , with a Luncheon following at: Hope United Church of Christ, 35127 Garfield Road, Clinton Township, MI 48035.
