March 28, 1958 – November 15, 2024
Kenneth (Kenney, Ken, Uncle Kenny, Papa) Hicks was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 28 th , 1958, to Lula and Robert Hicks. Growing up Kenneth was filled with adventure, laughter, mischief and love. He loved playing basketball and enjoyed watching wrestling. He graduated from Crane Technical Prep High School. After graduating from High School, Kenneth joined the Navy. His Navy career extended for 11 years where he earned the status of Sergeant. He later transferred to the Army National Guard where he served and protected America for 6 years. While in the Army National Guard, he earned the following Medals/Ribbons: Army Commendation Medal/Army Good Conduct Medal/ National Defense Service Medal (2 nd Award)/ Global War on Terrorism Service Medal/ Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star// Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon/ Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon . His military service took him all over the world as he served and protected America through the Gulf War (Dessert Shield/Storm). Then again after he was reactivated to the National Guard to serve in the war in Iraq from 2009 to 2010.
After retiring from the military, he settled in Gulf Port, Mississippi, with his family. He then joined the Pike County Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and later the Gulf Port Police Department, where he worked for four years. During that time, he was reactivated to the National Guard to serve in the war in Iraq and the Gulf war Dessert Shield/Storm.
Kenneth and his wife later settled in Florida where he began to enjoy retirement and his relationship with God. While Kenneth had an affection for his family, friends, and cars (the faster the better), he had a stronger relationship with God. Kenneth studied and obtained his Associate's Degree in Theology and continued on to obtain his Master's Degree in Theology
He was a member of Live Church in Orlando from 2018 until his reunion with God. At Live Church he volunteered as part of the Hospitality Team and Parking Staff. He so very much loved his Pastor Tye Tribbett, his teachings, and preachings. Kenneth was loved by all and will truly be missed by everyone. His favorite scripture was Romans 8:31 "What, shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?"
Kenneth met and married the love of his life Ursula (Pfleger) on September 10 th , 1991. He would often say to her "Us against the world" . She was at his side when he transitioned home with Jesus after battling cancer for the past year and a half. His spirit will forever live on in the memories we cherish and the love we shared. There are special people in our lives who never leave us, even after they are gone.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents Robert Lee Hicks, Lula Phillips, his sister Gloria Smith, his brother-in-law Sonny Newton, his son Marc Twain Lemon and his niece Katrina M. Monroe.
