Mount Dora, Florida: Dr. Kenneth Frank (Kenn) Holec DVM of Mount Dora, Florida passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday July 13, 2023. He was 77.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 14, 1945, he was the son of the late Frank and Bernice Olendzki Holec.
Kenn attended THE Ohio State University, he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi Social Fraternity and a member of Alpha Psi Veterinary Fraternity. He was the youngest in his veterinary class and was known as the "2 Year Wonder" having completed his undergraduate degree in two years. Kenn graduated, Class of 1969, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
While attending THE Ohio State he met his wife Carol Ruth Tschantz. They were married in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio on September 16, 1967. Upon graduating from college, the Ohio natives relocated and raised their family in southern Connecticut.
After practicing in Stamford from 1970-1972, Kenn purchased Valley Veterinary Hospital where he continued practicing from 1972-2008. Kenn was also a founding member of VCA Shoreline Emergency clinic.
After retiring from Veterinary medicine, Kenn and Carol moved to The Villages in Florida in 2009 and lived there until 2022. They most recently moved to Mount Dora, Florida.
Kenn was a member of the Rotary Club in Orange, CT for almost 30 years, serving as President from 1989 to 1990. As a Rotary member he was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow. His boys will remember him as a great Orange Little League Baseball Coach. He also enjoyed driving his 1990 Mazda Miata as a member of The Miata Club in The Villages.
He was a lifelong fan of all Cleveland professional teams and taught his boys to root for the Indians, the World Renowned Cleveland Browns, the Cavaliers, and THE Ohio State Buckeyes! Kenn enjoyed all kinds of sports. He was an avid windsurfer, a golf enthusiast, and enjoyed skiing, basketball, tennis, baseball, sailing, football, and biking.
Kenn and Carol traveled the world together from safaris in South Africa to the Egyptian Pyramids, and the Holy Lands of Israel. They visited the mountains of Alaska, the beaches of Hawaii, the islands of the Galapagos, South and Central America, Aruba, Jamaica, Bahamas, Bermuda, the Caribbean, Greece, Turkey, UK, Poland, Germany, Spain, Czech Republic, The Baltics, Panama, Mexico, and Columbia.
He was a Christian man with a strong spirit who attended and served at numerous churches throughout his life. Most recently Kenn was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Mount Dora.
Kenn is survived by his wife and best friend of 55 years, Carol, his sons, Scott Holec (Julie Holec) of Oakton, VA, Todd Holec (Stacey Defries) of Seattle, WA, and Matthew Holec (Jen Chance) of Baltimore, MD, grandchildren, Katie, Hannah, Sarah, Mattie Bea, Kai and Gretchen, and his sister Patricia Tschantz (Bill Tschantz) of The Villages, FL.
A Celebration of Kenn's life will be held at a later date.
He loved music and played the guitar, harmonica, as well as the accordion which he learned to play from his father. Memorial donations in Kenn's memory may be made to the Music Fund: First Presbyterian Church Mount Dora 222 West Sixth Avenue Mount Dora, Florida 32757
