Kenneth Leroy Huston

July 7, 1936 – August 11, 2026

Kenneth “Ken” Leroy Huston, born July 7, 1936, in Gnadenhutten, Ohio, and from Port Washington, Ohio, passed away at his home in Sorrento, Florida, on August 11, 2026. He was the son of the late Leona Huston and James Alexander Huston.

Ken lived a life defined by faith, service, family, adventure, friendship, and a genuine love for people. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for 23 years, attaining the rank of Captain. A Vietnam veteran, Ken spent a significant portion of his military career stationed in Germany, including at Ramstein. His service to his country remained an important part of who he was throughout his life, and he continued his connection to the veteran community through the VFW.

Anyone who knew Ken knew how much he loved people and loved to talk. Happy-go-lucky, outgoing, and rarely without something to say or a song to sing, Ken truly enjoyed life and the people around him. He loved singing, listening to gospel music, watching Westerns, and spending time surrounded by the people he loved.

Basketball was truly one of Ken’s lifelong passions. He played basketball for many years and later shared his love and knowledge of the game by coaching for many years, creating countless memories both on and off the court.

Ken also had a tremendous love for travel and adventure and was fortunate to see many places throughout the world. Some of his most treasured adventures were shared with his beautiful redheaded wife, Dorothy Huston. Together, Ken and Dorothy traveled, explored, laughed, and made a lifetime of wonderful memories.

Their travels included memorable trips to Hawaii, including a particularly special visit to see their grandson, Jarred Hunt, while he was proudly serving in the United States Navy at Pearl Harbor.

Years after Ken’s own military service had taken him to Germany, he and Dorothy had the opportunity to return to Ramstein, where Ken had once been stationed. This time, he returned not as a young soldier, but as a proud great-grandfather visiting their great-grandson, Austin Howell Sr., who was serving and stationed at Ramstein at the time. It was a beautiful full-circle moment, with different generations of the same family connected through their service to their country and even through the very same place so many years apart.

Travel also gave Ken the opportunity to make memories with those closest to him, including his lifelong friend and travel buddy, Keith Millhone. Their friendship, adventures, travels, and memories together remained a meaningful part of Ken’s life.

Above everything else, Ken loved his family.

Ken is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Huston, who faithfully and lovingly cared for him until the very end. He is also survived by his former wife, Elka Kohls, mother of his daughter, Andrea Stewart.

Ken leaves behind an extraordinary family whose many generations were among the greatest joys of his life.

He is survived by his daughter Andrea Stewart and her husband, Richard Stewart, and their children, Amber and Andrew.

His family also includes Dave Emery and Brenda Emery and their family: Lisa Howell and her late husband, Nash Howell; their family includes Austin Howell Sr. and Rachel Howell, Austin Howell Jr., Ariella Howell, Nash Howell Jr., and Ellery Howell; Rebecca Emery, Colton Schneider and Katey Schneider, Carter, Kayleigh, Ivy, and Charlotte; Garret Schneider, Leo, and Hope; Victoria Schneider and Braydon Gaumer; David Emery and Tina Emery, Katelin Hight and Branson Hight, Rylann, Brycen, Leyton, Courtney Chadwick and Eliana; Hailey Emery and Luca; and Charlie Allen and Sabrina, whose family includes Thomas, Rylee, and Kaden.

Ken’s family also includes Don Emery and Annette Emery, and their family: Kristen Roberts and Jason Roberts, Brandon, Brady, Hudson, Camren, Maddox, and Beckham; Jessica Coleman and Scott Coleman, Zoey, Zach, Cooper, and Kaleigh; Matthew Emery and Victoria Emery; Laura Emery; and Danielle Sailor and Brad Sailor, and Simon.

Ken’s family also includes Darrin Emery and Dustin Emery.

Ken’s family also includes Dianna Hunt (Emery) and James Hunt, and their children James “Jimmy” Hunt and Brooke Hunt, Ashlynn Hunt, Jarred Hunt, and Jenna Hunt, as well as Jimmy and Brooke’s daughter, Blair Hunt.

Ken’s family also includes Kenneth Gibson and Veronica Gibson and their children, Taylor, Brandon, Katelin, and Tyler; Rick Gibson and his family, Kris and Klair; and Gary Gibson and his family, Aaron, Cory, and Ryan.

Ken’s greatest legacy can be seen in the generations of family who follow him. He was blessed with 25 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren—a remarkable 62 grandchildren and descendants in all. Each generation added another chapter to the family story he treasured so deeply, and his grandchildren held an especially precious place in his heart.

Ken is also survived by countless nieces and nephews, extended family members, his longtime friend, Jim Landon, and many other friends whose lives he touched throughout the years.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Leona Huston and James Alexander Huston; his siblings, Dale Huston, Luella Gardner, Rosalie Stocker, Merve Huston, Robert Huston, and Harold Huston; his former partner, Shirley Gibson; his beloved lifelong friend and travel buddy, Keith Millhone; and many other loved ones.

Ken was the last living member of his immediate family, closing one chapter of the Huston family while leaving behind generations to carry forward his stories, his laughter, his faith, his love of family, his adventurous spirit, and his legacy of service.

A military cemetery service honoring Ken’s life and his 23 years of service to his country will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 10:00 AM, at 477 Monroe Ave., Apopka, Florida 32703.

A luncheon celebrating Ken’s life will immediately follow the service at Apopka Calvary Church of the Nazarene, 750 Roger Williams Rd., Apopka, Florida 32703.

Ken lived a long and meaningful life filled with faith, family, service, travel, basketball, gospel music, friendship, stories, laughter, and love. His life took him from Port Washington, Ohio, to Vietnam, Germany, Hawaii, and places around the world, but no matter how far he traveled, his greatest joy was always found in the people he loved.

And perhaps Ken himself summed up his life best in those final days with the three things he held most dear:

“Jesus Christ, my redheaded wife, and BASKETBALL.”

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of the many generations of family and friends fortunate enough to have known and loved him.
