March 3, 1948 – November 5, 2021
Kenneth Robert Neering (Ken), 73, of Holly Hill, passed away on November 5, 2021, peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. Ken was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 3, 1948 to Robert D. Neering and Marilyn Lucille Neering.
Ken attended Forest Hill High School, in West Palm Beach, Florida. Then served in the United States Army in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. When Ken returned home, he married and started a family. He worked in the produce department of Publix, as an assisted produce manager. Then moving onto becoming a plasterer and simulated brick/stone journeyman. Many of his work is still visible locally and in West Palm Beach. He later went on to become a Lieutenant Firefighter/EMT for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. Lastly, he finished his working career as the housing supervisor for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where he retired. In Ken's free time he enjoyed bowling and golf. He was a loyal member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post #1590, where he served as Postmaster for many years. And he was also a loyal member of the American Legion Post #120 and local Eagles Clubs.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents Robert D. Neering and Marilyn Lucille Neering, his daughter Suzanne Neering Lizak and brother Kris Neering.
Ken is survived by his companion of many years, Helen Sondheim, his daughters Dawn Neering Gibby (Joe Kuhr) of Ormond Beach, and Tanya Neering Johnston (Eric Crews) of Palm Coast. His son-in-law Steve Lizak, of Port Orange. His siblings: Karen Whitesell, Karyl Nelson, Kim Neering, Kathryn Rothenburg, and Carl Neering. His grandchildren: Emily Eaton, Logan Eaton, Walter Skreland, Albert Johnston IV, Addison Johnston, Lily Kuhr, and Willow Kuhr. Ken is also survived by many extended family members as well.
Services will be held at the United Brethren in Christ Church in Holly Hill, on January 8, 2022 at 12:00pm, followed by a gathering of remembrance at the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Post #1590, 1013 Veterans Ct, Daytona Beach, FL 32114.
