Kenneth Joseph Sushil passed away on September 26, 2022 at Hope Hospice. He was born on October 18, 1939 in Fort Myers, Florida to Geral d and Agnes Molter Sushil. His father was the manager of South Seas Plantation, a key lime planation on Captiva Island , where he spent his early years. Ken co-authored with his sister, Rita, two children's books about their lives as children growing up at South Seas . He attended St. Francis Xavier Elementary School and Fort Myers High School where he graduated in 1957 . At Fort Myers High School he was on the football team and in 200 8 he was inducted into the Greenie Football Hall of Fame. He served in the Navy and Air Force and then attended Edison Community College. He married Janet Reynolds on December 30, 1961 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church , they were married for over 60 years . He is survived by his wife, Janet, and his four sons, Andrew (Donya), Kenneth (Christy), Scott (Linda), and Timothy (Kim) and grandchildren , Lonnie, Lindsay, Harly , Trevor, Stephanie, Buford, Savannah, Me g han, Jordan, Devin, Joseph, Zachary, and Timothy and ten great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his siblings Gerald (Ellen), Laura B u rke (Jack), David, Sister Catherine Sushil, OSF, and Rita Dilks -Wolfe. Surviving relatives include his sister Kathy Meyer (Richard) and brother-in-law, John Reynolds (Luisa) and many nieces and nephews and cousins . He coached Little League baseball and youth football and loved to watch his grandchildren play sports. He worked for many years as a nurseryman at Pottinger's Nursery and then as a property manager on North Captiva. He will be remembered by many for his wonderful smile and gentle manner. Ken was a volunteer at Hope Hospice and a n original member of St. Columbkille Parish ; where he served as President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society , started the Divine Mercy devotion and w as an usher at Saturday afternoon masses until his illness. He also helped build the Grotto, the P rayer G arden and the Stations of the Cross. Ken's F uneral Mass will be on Friday, April 28, 2023, at 11:00 am at St. Columbkille Parish , 12171 Iona Road, Fort Myers , with a luncheon to follow in the Parish Hall . The family asks that instead of flowers , donations be made in his name to St. Columbkille to renovate the Stations of the Cross or to Hope Hospice Healthpark .
