IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kevin
Selfridge
June 14, 1947 – February 15, 2025
Kevin Selfridge, 77, passed away peacefully at Cornerstone Hospice on February 15, 2025, in The Villages, Florida. Born on June 14, 1947, in Bournemouth, England, he later emigrated with his family to Lindenhurst, NY. Kevin's life was marked by dedication to family, service, and passion. As a proud U.S. Marine, he served bravely in Vietnam, embodying the courage and commitment that defined his character throughout his life.
After his military service, Kevin built a successful career with the Long Island Railroad, retiring as a General Foreman. His integrity, leadership, and work ethic left a lasting impact on his colleagues.
Beyond his professional achievements, Kevin was a devoted husband to his late wife, Susie, and a loving father to his (as he would always say) amazing daughters Alison (Michael) Moore, Laura (Markus) Selfridge, and Jennifer (Brian) Meehan. He cherished his role as a proud grandfather to Derek Moore, Rylee Moore, and Kieran Meehan. In later years, he found companionship, joy and adventure with his loving partner, Darcia Stewart.
Determined to make the most of countless years of night shifts in the freezing NY winters, Kevin retired as soon as he could so he and Susie could live their best retired lives in The Villages. He had a deep love for sports and music and found many opportunities to deepen his commitment there. An avid golfer and softball player, he spent countless hours enjoying the camaraderie and competitiveness of the game. Learning to play the bagpipes from his father, William Selfridge, former Pipe Major of the Amityville Highland Pipe Band, led him to become the Pipe Major of The Villages Sounds of Scotland Pipe and Drum Band, where he shared his musical talents with many bandmates and fans. A dedicated supporter of the New York Yankees and New York Rangers, he never missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams. He also had a love for travel, embracing new experiences wherever he went. Or you might simply find him floating around the neighborhood pool with his friends discussing and solving the world's problems.
Kevin was predeceased by his parents, William and Mary; his wife, Susie; and his sister Lynn. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May his legacy bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
A ceremony of interment with military honors will be conducted at Florida National Cemetery at 1pm on Thursday, March 27th. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his honor to the amazing staff and services at Cornerstone Hospice House in The Villages.
