IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Larry Duke
Morrison
April 19, 1941 – January 28, 2026
Larry D. “Duke” Morrison, age 84, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026. Born on April 19, 1941, in Browns, Illinois, Larry lived a full and meaningful life centered on family, service, and community.
Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army from January 1960 to January 1963. Following his military service, he built a respected career with the United States Government, retiring from the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, Maryland. Of all his accomplishments, Larry was most proud of his marriage and the family he helped build. He married the love of his life, Darlene (Anderson) Morrison, on August 19, 1961, and together they shared more than six decades of devotion, partnership, and love.
Known as the patriarch of his family, Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be remembered for his steady presence, sense of humor, and deep dedication to those he loved.
Larry had a passion for life’s simple pleasures. He loved boating and fishing on the Severn River and the Chesapeake Bay, where he could often be found navigating around sailboats while enjoying a day on the water. He also enjoyed bowling and spending time with friends. A familiar face at American Legion Post #7 in Annapolis, Maryland, Larry gave nearly five decades of service as a proud member. He served as a two-time Post Commander, multiple-term Financial Officer, and held many other supporting and advisory roles. In recognition of his dedication and impact, he was honored with a lifetime membership. Friends at the Legion knew he enjoyed his “rail” vodka and Sprite (no fruit) and never passed up the chance to try his luck at the slot machines. Larry was also a member of the Fleet Reserve Club and the Moose Lodge in Annapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Ella (Jones) Morrison; his sister, Wilma (Morrison) Finley; and brother-in-law, Ed Finley.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Darlene Morrison of Middleton, Florida; daughter Cindy Hart (Phil) of The Villages, Florida; son Rick Morrison (Talitha) of St. Clair, Missouri; brother Jerry Morrison (Sharon) of Maryville, Tennessee; and his devoted caregiver, Melissa Cook of Baltimore, Maryland. He leaves behind a loving legacy through his grandchildren: Jim Hart (Ashley), Mike Morrison (Samantha), Melissa Shelton (Cary), Ryan Williams (Dallas), Bob Morrison, Allison Williams (Bryan), and David Morrison (Brianna). He was a proud great-grandfather to Ava, Liam, Eleanor, Hadley, Irie, Amelia, Delilah, and Oliver. He is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.
A service with military honors will be held at Bushnell National Cemetery on February 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
