Obituary

Laura Miller passed peacefully on April 27th, 2026. She was born on December 11th, 1946, in Manhattan, New York.

She was raised in Brooklyn and Queens by her loving parents, Morris and Sarah Rubin, alongside her siblings Mille and Lan.

Laura devoted a great deal of time and passion to the arts, having studied at the Arts Students League of New York in Manhattan. She was an award-winning artist who shared her love of painting with others by teaching elementary school children across Staten Island, NY and later adult students in The Villages, FL.

Laura met the love of her life aboard a Manhattan subway, where she spotted a tall man in a police uniform with striking red hair. When he asked for her phone number, Laura would later joke that she was legally required to comply. They married shortly after and welcomed their son, Kevin.

Laura and her beloved husband Mike shared 59 happy years together. They cared for two poodles, Fofo and Picasso, before living in the Villages for the next 25 years. Laura was a loyal friend and an avid mahjong player, active in both the Villages social circles and online. She filled their home with artwork, one-of-a-kind tchotchkes, and countless relics of a unique and passionate life lived.

She is survived by her devoted husband Michael Miller; son Kevin whose accomplishments she was always proud of; daughter-in-law Colleen whom she always admired as a wife and mother; granddaughter Shannon whom she always supported in her creative endeavors; Shannon’s boyfriend Matt Santonocito who was always there for her when she needed computer technical support; sister-in-law Melodye Paul who, much to Laura’s delight, sent a picture of herself posing in front a new painting every day; favorite nephew Jay Paul; Jay’s wife Alex; nieces Sheri Donohue and Jennifer Aronoff; Jennifer’s husband Adam; as well as great nieces and nephews.

Laura was the first to put a paintbrush in Shannon’s hand. They spent many happy hours together, studying the way the light would hit a rippling pool of water or the exceptionally tall neck of a Floridian bird.

Laura will be deeply missed for her humor, boldness, boundless creativity and fiery heart.

In lieu of any funeral services, Laura wished for a quiet and fond remembrance among her loved ones and those who knew her.
