Laura Singletary
Scott
November 11, 1924 – January 28, 2019
Laura Singletary Scott, 94, of Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2019 at Legacy House – Hospice of Marion County .
Laura was born to the late Rupert and Claudia Singletary on November 11, 1924 in Thomasville, Georgia. She graduated from Thomasville High School in 1942 and soon secretly married her childhood sweetheart, Allan Dewey Scott on July 11, 1942. Allan had enlisted into the Army Air Corps which did not permit air corpsmen to be married during his flight training. Soon after Allan's graduation from basic flight training, they announced their marriage and Laura joined Allan in Selma, Alabama.
Laura maintained their family home in Selma, AL for the next forty-three years. She and Allan moved to Orlando, FL and Aliceville, AL before retiring to Ocala, FL in 1992. They were married for 76 years before Allan passed away in August, 2018.
Laura is survived by her three children: Cathy Scott Parker of Knoxville, TN; Larry Scott of Ocala, FL; Julian Scott and her daughter-in-law, Jean Scott, both of Ocala, FL; her brother, Lamar Singletary and spouse, Jackie of metro-Atlanta, GA; and her brother-in-law, Charles Scott, of Vero Beach, FL. Laura is preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Scott Schwan; her sister, Lucille Singletary Maxwell; and her loving husband, Allan. She also is survived by her thirteen grandchildren and their spouses, and her twenty-three great-grandchildren.
Laura sang in her church choir and passed her appreciation of music to all her children. She was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. As her health declined, she often repeated to friends and neighbors her childhood stories, as well as her love and devotion for her family and for God. There will be a private memorial service for family members only on Friday, February 8 at Our Redeemer Church.
