Lawrence Thomas Gary, 76, of Orlando, Florida stepped into glory on July 11th 2026 at Advent Health Orlando.
Born on March, 25th, 1950 in Baltimore, Maryland to Doris Lancei and Allen Gary. He met the love of his life Catherine Bonomo in Ocean City, Maryland in 1969 and married his sweetheart, on April 17th, 1971.
In his early life Larry was an iron worker, getting to participate in the construction of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, and World Trade Center in the inner harbor.
After serving as an assistant minister, Larry began pastoring in 1985 and continued to love on the people of his congregation at Christian Life Fellowship, and the community of Catonsville, Maryland at large, for the next 35 years. During his time as a pastor he traveled to countless countries, participating in mission work with powerful men and women of the faith like Heidi Baker. He also worked as a maintenance engineer for TCG, the Hub international group, within the Social Security Administration, from 2008, until his retirement in 2022. He was affectionately known as “The Bro” by his coworkers.
Larry loved fishing, softball (where he played on The Park Team), and baseball. He loved going to the beach with friends and family, and enjoying little getaways with his wife of 55 years.Larry was known to offer a helping hand to anyone in need, receiving the Carnegie Hero Fund for his rescue of a young woman from a burning home in downtown Baltimore. He also received an award from the Daughters of the American Revolution for rescuing yet another individual from a fire that had spread through their home. Larry's home was always open to others. Whether it was offering a warm bed to someone in need, or extending an invitation to Sunday afternoon dinners featuring Catherine’s beloved spaghetti and meatballs, he made everyone feel like family.
Larry was preceded in death and rejoicing in the reunion with his grandmother Kitty Hecker, mother, Doris Lancei; his beloved father in law Anthony Bonomo, his cousin and dear friend, Michael Lance; his cherished nephew, Joey and niece, Diane; and his precious son, Michael Gary.
He is survived by his sister Cathy Miller, adopted sister, Victoria Palermo, devoted wife, Catherine Gary; his children, Melanie Robinson ( nee’ Gary) and Matthew Gary; his son-in-law, Bill Robinson; granddaughters, Alyssa Murphy ( nee ‘Robinson) and Ashley Robinson; grandson-in-law, Joshua Murphy; nephew Jeffrey Kreipl; grand-nephew Hayden Kreipl, his many “spiritual” children, grand-children, and god children. Along with extended family members, friends, his TCG Maintenance teammates, his cherished Christian Life Fellowship family, and his favorite little fur-pals, Rocky Flash Robinson, Milo Murphy, and Mitsy Murphy.
Larry will be remembered as a man who, once he devoted his heart to the Lord, gave his whole life in service to Him and others. His faith was strong. His sense of humor, bravery, and compassion for others defined him as a man of strong character and integrity. Larry’s legacy will live on in all the seeds of faith and compassion he planted along the dash of his life.
A celebration of life will take place at Church on the Drive, 1914 Edgewate Drive, Orlando FL 32804 on Saturday July 25, 2026 at 3:30 PM with a reception to follow.
