IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lee Michael
Tango
November 8, 1948 – January 5, 2026
Lee Michael Tango passed away on January 5, 2026, at home in Cape Coral, Florida, with his beloved wife at his side. His life was one of service, strength, thoughtfulness, and a legendary sense of humor that kept everyone, especially his wife, delightfully on their toes.
Lee was born in Buffalo, New York, to Marilyn Dora Beecher and Jerry F. Tango. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era, a foundation that shaped his lifelong dedication to public service. After attending college, Lee began his career in criminal justice with the Hollywood Police Department and later joined the Florida Department of Law Enforcement as a Special Agent. Throughout his career, he earned numerous accolades and awards, including being named a Kentucky Colonel. Known fondly among colleagues as "The Legend," Lee was admired not only for his skill and leadership, but for the respect and loyalty he inspired.
Lee was a direct descendant of abolitionists Henry Ward Beecher and Harriet Beecher Stowe, a lineage rooted in courage and conviction that echoed in his own life of service.
Those who knew Lee well will remember his thoughtfulness and steady presence. Just as unforgettable was his love of humor and pranks. Lee delighted in playful surprises and clever jokes, finding great joy in laughter and shared moments. His favorite target was often his wife, Nancy, who never quite knew what was coming next. From harmless tricks to perfectly timed surprises, Lee kept her laughing, and she loved his sense of humor just as much as she loved him.
An avid fisherman, Lee cherished time on his boat, where he found peace, reflection, and joy. The water was one of his favorite places to be, often accompanied by good company and great stories. Protecting our aquatic life and waterways was in his heart.
Lee recently married his longtime love, Nancy Rochelle Tango, and their marriage was filled with affection, companionship, laughter, and devotion. She remained lovingly by his side until his final moments.
Lee is survived by his wife, Nancy; his son, Joseph Tango, who followed in his father's footsteps as a police officer with the Hollywood Police Department; his daughter-in-law, Ann Amendolaro Tango; his grandchildren, Joseph and Gianna; his stepchildren, Rachael Okula and Chris Okula and his wife Kelly; his step-grandchildren, Bella and Mia; his godchild, Tola Orgeck; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends and colleagues who will remember his humor, warmth, and unmistakable presence.
Lee Michael Tango will be remembered for a life well lived, a career honored, and a sense of humor that made the world brighter. His legacy lives on in the love he shared, the laughter he sparked, and the many lives he touched.
