In Loving Memory of Leola Butterfield: Sunrise: 4/10/39 – Sunset: 4/28/25

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for her life, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Leola Butterfield, a woman of quiet strength, unshakable faith, and boundless love, who entered eternal rest on April 28 at the beautiful age of 86.

Born in Mount Croghan, South Carolina, Leola lived a life defined by grace, humility, and unwavering devotion. Though soft-spoken in manner, her spirit was strong—guiding her family, community, and church with steady love and gentle wisdom.

A devoted mother, she poured her heart into raising her three children—Derrick Jr., Wes, and Andrea (deceased, 2023)—instilling in them the enduring values of kindness, resilience, and faith. Her love was constant, her words few but meaningful, and her presence always a source of comfort. Though her husband had been estranged for many years, Derrick Sr. remained a source of support throughout her life.

Leola's faith was her cornerstone. A cherished member of her Assemblies of God churches, she was a familiar and faithful presence at Sunday morning and evening services, as well as midweek and occasional Friday gatherings. She was a comforting hand in prayer and a quiet force behind many acts of kindness. She drew strength from scripture and joy from fellowship, living each day in service to God and others.

She leaves behind her sons, grandchildren, extended family, and a community profoundly blessed by her presence. Though her voice was gentle, her legacy speaks volumes—a testament to the quiet power of love, faith, and unwavering dedication.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Port Charlotte Salvation Army Corp on May 20, 2025, and she will be placed in her final resting place at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte, Florida. All who were touched by her spirit are welcome to attend and honor her memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to your local Salvation Army in honor of Leola's legacy. As a devoted soldier of the organization, her life exemplified selfless service, deep compassion, and a steadfast commitment to uplifting others through faith and grace.
