Obituary

Leonard "Bud" Sawdy

August 3rd, 1938 - January 14th, 2026

Leonard "Bud" Sawdy passed away January 14th, 2026 at UF Health Leesburg Hospital with his family by his side.

Bud was born and raised in the Detroit, Michigan area. He joined the Navy straight out of high school serving a total of six years combined active and reserves. He served on the aircraft carrier USS Antietam.

He was very proud of his military service and stayed in touch with several of his shipmates throughout his life.

Bud and his wife of 66 years, Shirley, moved to The Villages 14 years ago, and he truly loved The Villages experience. Cruising to the squares in his golf cart was a steady occurrence. In doing so, he made numerous lasting friendships. Bud was kind, giving and hilariously funny. You couldn't hang out with Bud and not have a good time and a good laugh. He was loved by many.

Bud is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley Sawdy, three children, Michael Sawdy, Debra Critser (son in law Jerry Critser) of Oxford, Fl, Patrick Sawdy of Utica, MI and two grandchildren Michael and Christopher Sawdy.
