IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lois
Ploegstra
March 8, 1944 – May 7, 2025
Lois Beth Ploegstra (née Cannistra) March 8, 1944 – May 7, 2025
Lois Beth Ploegstra, affectionately known as "Lolo," "Grammy," and the "Queen of the Red Barn Flea Market," passed away peacefully in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, May 7, 2025. She was 81 years old.
Born on March 8, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, to Joseph and Dolores Cannistra, and a graduate of Manatee High School, Bradenton in 1962, Lois lived a vibrant life full of love and laughter. A true lover of nature and animals—especially horses—Lois was happiest surrounded by the beauty of the outdoors and the people she loved most. Her heart belonged to her family and close friends, and her greatest joy came from the time spent with them.
Lois was deeply connected to her spiritual higher power and her love of God. Her faith had guided her life with kindness, acceptance, and a deep sense of compassion, always seeking to help others and spread love.
Lois had a successful career, most notably at the Red Barn Flea Market, where she became a beloved and iconic figure, with her red hair, piled high. Her charisma, leadership, and genuine care for others earned her the nickname "Queen of the Red Barn."
She is survived by her three children: Rob Davidson (Christine Davidson), Tiffany Robinson (Dave Robinson) and Matt Davidson (McKenzie Davidson); and by her cherished grandchildren: Kalyn, Marissa, Chelsea, Cody, Marina, Leesey and Belle and her beloved great grandchildren.
In lieu of a formal service, the family encourages friends and loved ones to honor Lois's memory in their own way, whether through a kind gesture, a memory shared, or a quiet moment of reflection in the woods, her favorite place.
