Louella Zoe Johnston, 99, of New Smyrna Beach died Friday, December 10, 2010 with her family by her side. Louella was born September 23, 1911 in Teutoplis, IL. She met and married the love of her life Merle Johnston (deceased 1989) in North Dakota. They settled in Olivia, MN before moving to New Smyrna Beach in 1951. Louella was the matriarch of the family. She and Merle had four children. Louella would give of her time with the Girl Scouts and family sports events. Later in life, she and Merle were involved in local politics and one of the founding members of the New Smyrna Beach Christian Church where they were actively involved. She loved to read and work crossword puzzles, but her greatest accomplishment was her family. Louella is survived by her loving children, Carol Minnick of South Daytona, Merle Johnston of Okeechobee, FL and Steve Johnston of New Smyrna Beach. She was affectionately known as to her adored grandchildren as "Double Grandma". Double Grandma leaves behind 15 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Louella once wrote that the spiritual legacy she'd like to leave for others was to let them know that they need to "accept Jesus, be baptized in His name and go to church because I want everyone in our family to see each other in Heaven one day."
