Louis Rego, 89, of Port Orange, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026. Born on December 1, 1936, in Fall River, Massachusetts, Louis was the son of Manuel Rego and Adelina (Custanho). He lived a life marked by dedication to his family, community, and country.
Louis proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. During his military service, he worked with rocket artillery and completed training at Fort Dix, New Jersey. His assignments took him to Fort Bliss, Texas; Fort Sill, Oklahoma; and the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. He left the Army as an E-4 and carried immense pride in his service throughout his life.
Following his military career, Louis returned to Fall River and joined the Fall River Police Department in 1967. Over the course of 24 years, he served his community with honor and dedication until his retirement in 1991. After retiring from law enforcement, Louis relocated to Port Orange, Florida.
Louis was a devoted family man who cherished time spent with loved ones. He found joy in woodworking and shared many special moments crafting projects for family and friends. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Louis’s warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He was an active member of Epiphany Catholic Church in Port Orange, where he found spiritual fulfillment and community. Louis is survived by his beloved wife Dianna (Clark); his son Chris Rego and wife Debbie of South Daytona, FL; stepchildren Shelly Lewis of Swansea, Massachusetts; Richard Andrade of Milbury, Massachusetts; Sharon Pereira of Danielson, Connecticut; Holli Kunkel of Fort Thomas, Kentucky; Matthew Clark of Jacksonville, FL; Jeremy Clark of St. Petersburg, FL; and Kelly Torres of Orange City, FL.
Louis is also survived by 9 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Manuel and Adelina Rego; brothers William Rego, Arthur Rego, Everett Rego, Henry Rego, sisters Grace Lincoln, and Madeline Rego, as well as his previous wife Claire (Thibodeau), to whom he was married from 1976 to 1996.
Louis’s legacy is one of love for family and service to others. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Louis' name to Halifax Health Hospice at 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, Florida 32129.
A Viewing will be held on June 22, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home located at 620 Dunlawton Avenue in Port Orange. A Funeral Mass will be held on June 23, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Epiphany Catholic Church at 201 Lafayette Street in Port Orange.
Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Port Orange.
