Luz Delia Hernandez, age 85, of Altamonte Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026, at AdventHealth Hospice in Altamonte Springs, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on March 11, 1941, in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, Luz was the cherished daughter of the late Juan Davila and Otilia Rodriguez, and one of five beloved siblings. Coming from the musically gifted Dávila family, where singing, classical guitar, and piano filled the home, she inherited a deep passion for music. Raised with strong faith and deep family values, she carried her vibrant Puerto Rican heritage and devotion to God throughout every chapter of her life. Everyone who had the blessing of meeting Luz, from her immediate family, nieces, and nephews to her in-laws, Bible study friends, and church community, remembered her as the sweetest, kindest soul.

In the early years of her marriage to her late husband, Miguel A. Hernandez, with whom she shared 60 wonderful years, Luz worked as a housekeeping supervisor for the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City. Her extraordinary work ethic and dedication were recognized when she was personally awarded Employee of the Year by Steve Wynn. Luz possessed a legendary dedication to keeping an immaculate home, often expressing the genuine joy it brought her to keep things tidy. Long after her professional career, that helpful spirit remained; at every family gathering, she was always the first to jump in and begin clearing and cleaning the kitchen.

Above all, Luz’s true life’s work was her role as a devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She poured the most amazing, unconditional love into all of her children and grandchildren. A faithful woman who loved Jesus deeply, she instilled that unwavering faith into the hearts of her family.

Family gatherings were the center of Luz’s world. Carrying on her family's rich musical legacy, she possessed an extraordinary singing voice and loved playing the guitar, filling every celebration with music, warmth, and joy. Her kitchen was her sanctuary, where her extra-large caldero and perfectly seasoned pilón produced iconic Puerto Rican dishes, including her famous cremita, seasoned ground beef, arroz con gandules, arroz con pollo, achiote rellenos, alcapurria, bacalao, and rellenos de papa. Feeding her family and friends was how she expressed her deepest affection, and no one ever left her home hungry, or quickly. The family affectionately cherished her famous "one-hour goodbyes," as she made sure to embrace, bless, and love every single person before letting them walk out the door.

Luz was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Miguel A. Hernandez, and her parents, Juan Davila and Otilia Rodriguez.

She leaves behind a rich legacy of love through her family:

• Children: Miguel Hernandez (Alma), Luis Hernandez (Dvonne), and Lucie Pescatello (Jeff).

• Grandchildren: Jorell Hernandez, Javier Hernandez, Julian Hernandez, Sofia Hernandez, Isabella Hernandez, Isabella Pescatello, Jordan Hernandez, and Lucas Pescatello.

• Great-Grandchildren: Kai Hernandez, Zoey Hernandez, and Maverick Hernandez.

• Siblings: Tinito Davila, Nestor Davila, Blanca Rivera, and Victor Davila.

• Extended Family: A loving network of nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, Bible study members, and dear friends.
