Lyla Ruth
Kopshina
April 5, 1930 – August 19, 2022
Lyla Ruth Kopshina of Ormond Beach, Florida passed away August 19, 2022. After the passing of her husband Joe 9 years ago, she moved to Florida for health reasons and to be closer to her son James Austin Kopshina. She and her son had a wonderful, healthy, blessed 9 years together. It took Lyla a while to get used to Florida because she loved her home state of West Virginia and the mountains. She was brought up in Mundy, West Virginia. She had 3 brothers and 1 sister. She was the youngest and last to pass.
Lyla worked for C&P Telephone Company (Verizon) for 31 years. She retired to be with her husband, Joe Kopshina, who retired from PPG Industries as a glass cutter for 30 years.
They lived in Nutter Fort and were members of Vincent Memorial Methodist Church. Over the years, they spent many days on Tygart Lake boating and water skiing. They would also go snow skiing at Canaan Valley in the winter. Later, they would make trips to Florida to visit their son and grandchildren.
Her son James "Jimmy" is a retired Registered Nurse. She has two grandchildren, her grandson, Max Austin Kopshina, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. As a chef, he has worked in places such as Napa Valley, California, New Orleans, Louisiana, Knoxville, Tennessee, and most recently, Hendersonville, North Carolina.
Her granddaughter, Haley Jean Kopshina, is a graduate of the University of Central Florida, and is currently pursuing her certification in physical therapy. She is also a Cross Fit coach and competitor.
Lyla always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone. She will be greatly missed.
