IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maira
Neeley
February 27, 1950 – May 28, 2023
Maira Ilena Neeley, 73, of Orlando, Florida, went home with the Lord in the early morning hours of May 28, 2023, after a long, and arduous battle with NASH (Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis).
Maira was born in February 27, 1950 to Amado and Isobel Alcantara in Brooklyn, New York. Her city roots and Brooklyn accent made her a force to be reckoned with. In fact, her nickname was "Mighty," aka "Midy." She is the youngest sibling of three: Amado Alcantara, and Norman Alcantara; who reside in Florida and New York respectively.
Maira was married to CMC Harold Ray Neeley Sr. April 1, 1982. Unfortunately, she became widowed on February 10, 1994, after her husband succumb to colon cancer. However, that did not stop her fierce spirit. She maintained her passion as a nurse for which she dedicated over 20 years of life service. To many, she was more than just a nurse, caregiver, provider, friend, and mother. It was her loving face, compassion, warmth, care, and gentleness that left many people with such a beautiful, and lasting impression.
To state she was just a "mother," would be an injustice. She was first and foremost a follower of Christ, a warrior, fiercely independent, cultured, nurturing, and strong-willed. It is because of her faith and our belief in Christ, that her children and grandchildren are not saddened by her passing. We know she possesses the victory through Christ in death.
When she was not busy taking care of others she had a fervent passion for the arts, culture, traveling, good food, and spoiling her grandchildren Devin and Bella. In fact, a majority of her free time was spent at the numerous amusement parks in Central Florida: Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and Sea World. Maira enjoyed life, to laugh, gather friends and family, and especially, shop.
Maira is survived by her brothers Amado Alcantara of Orlando, Norman Alcantara and sister in-law Cathy Alcantara of Brooklyn, NY, Daughter Christine Waugh, son in-law Rusty Waugh, son Harry Neeley Jr., and daughter Kimberly Neeley, along with two grandchildren, Devin and Bella; all of Orlando, Florida. A celebration of life will be held by invitation only.
