Obituary

Marcel Xavier Yurt passed away on May 18, 2026. He was 66 years old.

Marcel was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in Connecticut before embarking on extensive travels across the country during his teenage years and again in his late teens and early 20s. In 1994, he settled in Lee County with his family.

Marcel embarked on an extraordinary journey across America with his mother, Ria Yurt, his brother, Paul, and a family friend from Florida. They camped each night as they traversed the vast expanse of the country, even venturing into Canada.

Marcel developed a passion for treasure hunting. This began as a child collecting unique rocks on his travels. As a teenager in Connecticut, he would venture into the woods in search of old bottles, which he later sold at local markets. As he got older, this passion led him to frequent garage sales and flea markets, where he set up his lot for the week. For the past 32 years, he dedicated himself to buying and selling items in Cape Coral, North Fort Myers, and Fort Myers, honing skills he had developed as a teen.

Beyond his treasure-hunting endeavors, Marcel was known for his kindness and generosity. He raised his daughter, Alissa (Yurt) Germaine, on his own for many years and was a beloved friend to all who knew him. His passing leaves a void in the lives of many, including his partner of over 20 years, Pamela Carmichael. He will be deeply missed.

Marcel is survived by his long-term partner, Pamela Carmichael; his brother, Paul Yurt; his daughter, Alissa (Yurt) Germaine; his son-in-law, Kurt Germaine; his grandson, Xavier Germaine; and his stepdaughter, Lisa McHugh, among many other cherished loved ones.

Marcel was preceded in death by his mother, Ria Hanson; his father, Xavier Yurt; his stepfather, Bob Wallach; and his ex-wife, Lisa Westphal.
