Margaret Elizabeth Batchelor, age 79, of Port Orange, FL, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023. She is survived by her two sisters Trisha Oates Stephenson and Barbara Oates Knisely and her husband's son Michael Batchelor and his granddaughter Alex Strohm. Her loving husband John preceded her in death by six months.

Born on January 22, 1944 in Marquette, Michigan, Margaret was the eldest of the three children of parents Donald and Ruth Oates of East Lansing, Michigan. She graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Elementary Education. Margaret was an elementary school teacher for ten years and then worked in the insurance industry for twenty years. She and her husband John lived in the Northern Virginia area before moving to Florida in 2003.

Together, Margaret and her husband John enjoyed exploring and traveling where Jamaica quickly became a favorite destination and where they made lasting friendships and memories. Margaret will be remembered as an outgoing, fun-loving individual who enjoyed the good life and good food.

A celebration of life for Margaret will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 28 at New Hope Baptist Church, 1675 Taylor Road, Port Orange, Florida 32128, where she and her husband John were members. While there will not be a graveside service, Margaret's remains will be interred at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 Route 1, Mims, Florida 32754.
