Margaret (Peggy) Kane Hupfeldt passed away at age 98 on Thursday, July 23, 2026 in Fort Myers, Florida. Born in Easton, Maryland to the late Claude and Mildred Truslow, Peggy grew up and raised her family in Chestertown, Maryland. She graduated from Chestertown High School and Mary Washington College (University of Virginia). Later in life, Peggy split her time between Chestertown and Sanibel Island, Florida, eventually settling in Fort Myers, Florida.

Peggy was always an avid sailor and was a true waterman. She loved tennis, sewing, cooking and gardening.

She was a successful businesswoman with enterprises including a fuel oil company and as a regional manager for a custom women’s clothing line. Volunteering was always a big part of her life including J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge and St. Michael’s Church on Sanibel Island, Emanuel Episcopal Church in Chestertown and various positions at Cypress Cove Retirement Community.

Peggy was preceded in death by her first husband, Brian B. Kane, Jr and her 2nd husband, William H. Hupfeldt as well as her sisters, Mildred (Betty) Welch and Nellie Hutchins. She is survived by her three children, Claudia Kane (Ted Spitaleri), Elizabeth Kane and Brian B. Kane, III (Anna Sprinkle), as well as grandchildren Jason Drury (Lisa), Ian Drury (Rosie), Ashton Potter (Greg) and Peter Garafalo (Allison Worrell) and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her step-daughters Kim Hupfeldt and Julie Miller and numerous relatives and friends.

Services will take place in the fall.
