Obituary

Margaret Elizabeth (Peg) Roberts, 102, of Fort Myers, FL passed away September 17, 2024 at the Hope Hospice House in Cape Coral surrounded by family.

Peg was born July 9, 1922 in Newark, OH to William A. Rich and Edith Margurite Rich. She grew up in Clyde, OH graduating from high school in Marysville, OH. Her sister Nancy joined the family in 1932.

Peg attended college in Bowling Green, OH, where she studied drafting. Peg worked as a professional draftsperson, making mechanical drawings of airplane parts by hand for a factory in Cleveland. After WWII the factory laid off all but a few workers in the drafting department. As a testament to her intelligence and skill, Peg was asked to stay on and she was the only woman requested. Peg enjoyed her working girl days.

Peg met her future husband Arnie in Cleveland shortly after he had returned from service in the Army after WWII. They were married on May 18,1946. In true Peg fashion, as a newlywed she bought herself a copy of the "Joy of Cooking" so she could learn how to prepare meals for her new husband.

Their first son, Timothy Roberts, was born in 1947. They moved to Fort Myers in 1950 and later welcomed two sons, Gregory and Jeffrey. The family enjoyed a wonderful life in the home Arnie built on the Caloosahatchee River. Peg was a very busy mom of three adventurous boys.

Peg was instrumental in Arnie's construction business, A.D Roberts Builders; she drafted plans, took care of the bookkeeping and even prepared a midday meal for their workers.

Peg was a very energetic and industrious person. She especially enjoyed volunteering at the local food bank. She was a very social person and always very interested in others. She attended weekly lunch dates as well as her exercise classes into her final years. Peg worked into her 80s and kept her driving license active into her 90s. She embraced change and learned to use the internet for keeping in touch with friends, shopping and ancestry research.

Gardening, fashion, Nascar and NFL were just a few of Peg's interests, but what really got her excited was any mention of travel. She read the Smithsonian Magazine each month and completed the daily crossword puzzle into her mid- 90s when her eye sight started to fail. She traveled many places in the US and overseas to Holland, China and the UK. She visited England many, many times and always said it was her favorite place of all.

Peg was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arnie and son Timothy.

Peg was very involved with her family and really relished the times spent together. Peg is survived by sons Greg (Judy) of Fort Myers, FL and Jeff (Gerry) of Land O' Lakes, FL and daughter-in-law Cathy Roberts of Montrose, Colorado; grandchildren Rebecca and Arnold (Jessica) of Arvada, Colorado, Kathleen Bosse (Matthew) of Temple Terrace, FL , Scott (Angela) Roberts of Tampa, FL, and Jennifer Roberts of Midland, Texas. Peg is also survived by 6 great grandchildren Hailey, Leonardo, Nora, Gwyneth, Evelyn and Raegan as well as her sister Nancy Lester and many nieces and nephews.

A gathering to celebrate Peg will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice or Gigi's Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Center in Fort Myers.
