Obituary

Marianne Barbara Carr, affectionately known as Marianne, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on January 5, 1939, in Highland Park, Michigan, Marianne was the beloved daughter of Cross J. Ruffino and Mary Kurtz.  She later made her home in The Villages, Florida, where she was blessed to spend the final year of her life surrounded by family.

Our beloved mother, Marianne Carr, passed away peacefully in her sleep yesterday with her children by her side.  She was 87 years old.Mom raised five children in just seven and a half years and gave us a wonderful childhood filled with love, laughter, and memories we will always cherish.  She worked at General Dynamics for 32 years, where she built a career, she was proud of. She left this world exactly has she had hoped. She never had to live in a nursing home, never flew on an airplane, and was blessed to spend the last year of her life in warm, sunny Florida with her eldest daughter Cathy and son-in-law George.  Mom was also a proud grandmother to 10 grandchildren, a great-grandmother to 9 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandmother to one, all of whom she loved with all her heart.  She loved spending time with family, especially gathering around the table for a game of Texas Hold’em. She also enjoyed Bingo, trying her luck on the slot machines at the casino.

Marianne's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her five children: Catherine (George) McNabb, John (Jill) Carr, Kimberly (Tim) Gibbs, Marianne (Jeff) Mertz, and Joseph (Julie) Carr. She was a proud grandmother of 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cross and Mary Ruffino, and her three sisters, Rosie Maus, Wanda Laurent, and Josephine (Dolly) Perrone.

Marianne's family will forever cherish the love, laughter, memories, and traditions she created throughout her life. Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild, and in the countless memories shared around the family table.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. at All Saints Polish National Church, 5555 17 Mile Rd., Sterling Heights, MI 48310.

A luncheon reception will immediately follow the service at Fern Hill Banquet Center, 17600 Clinton River Rd., Clinton Township, MI 48038.
