Marianne Elizabeth Miller Johnson (92) of Holly Hill, Florida, passed away peacefully in Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast, FL, with her children by her side on May 26, 2022. Marianne was born on September 16, 1929, in Greenville, SC to Tilman and Bessie Norris Miller.

Marianne was very self-determined, beautiful, and talented. As a teenager at boarding school in North Carolina, with her life-long friend, Pat Kelley, she played basketball and wrote poetry. A child of the Depression, she learned to play piano while at the Baptist Children's Home, and she and her older brother, Allan, would sing together. She sang with the Sweet Adelines for many years. She sewed, painted, refurbished furniture, and read extensively. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Methodist Church.

In September of 1952, Marianne flew to Seattle, Washington to marry Air Force serviceman Russell L. Johnson, whom she had known while briefly living in Asheville, North Carolina with her mother and stepfather, James Hudgens. After Russell's service ended, they returned to Asheville, NC to raise two children before divorcing. She retired in 1998 after forty some years with the U.S. Weather Bureau as a computer operator and moved to Daytona Beach, Florida to be near her daughter and to enjoy the sun and the beach.

Marianne is survived by her daughter, Mitzi Johnson Coats of Ormond Beach, FL, her son, Michael B. Johnson, of Asheville, NC, and her sweet cat, Grace.
