Obituary

Marie Sherrier-D'Alesandro passed away peacefully at the Halifax Health Hospice Port Orange Care Center on May 11, 2016. She was born November 1, 1936 in Brava, Cape Verde to the late Arminda Francisco and the late George Francisco. Marie is preceded in death by her first husband Robert Sherrier, and her brother, Henry Francisco. Marie enjoyed the last 20 years married to Fred D'Alesandro which included annual fishing and boating vacations to their favorite destinations of Key Largo and Fort Pierce. For many years, Marie worked as a hairstylist, and although she enjoyed her career, she was happiest with her volunteer work with Hospice and serving on numerous Church Ministries. A Hospice volunteer for more than 20 years, which she was a recipient of the Twenty Years' Service Award, she donated her time in the kitchen, provided haircuts, and simply spent time talking with Hospice patients. Through her church, Our Lady of Hope, Marie volunteered in the Outreach Ministry where she provided haircuts to the homeless, worked in the food pantry, assembled holiday baskets for the needy and was an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at 7:30 a.m. Sunday Mass. Marie also enjoyed making crafts and giving them away to family and friends. Marie leaves behind two sons, Robert Sherrier and William Sherrier; daughter, Lynn Britton; sister, Dolores Davis; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass will be held Monday, June 6, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. at Our Lord of Hope Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Memorial Donations be made to Halifax Health Hospice Port Orange Care Center or other charity of your choice.
