In Loving Memory of Marie Wodarczyk
On Monday, May 5, 2025, Marie Wodarczyk, beloved wife of Leonard "Lenny" Wodarczyk, passed away at the age of 88. Marie was a cherished and vital part of the Shell Point community and St. Columbkille Catholic Church, where she was an Extraordinary Minister of Communion bringing communion to the sick and homebound. Her generous spirit and unwavering commitment made her a valued member of every group and organization she joined throughout her life.
Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, Marie attended boarding school at a young age and later joined the Carmelite Sisters following high school. After several years in religious life, she pursued a career in nursing, studying at NYU, where she met her first husband, Bernard "Bernie" Schwartz of Brooklyn, New York. Marie was quickly embraced by Bernie's four children, with whom she spent many joyful hours hunting, fishing, and creating lasting memories. Summers were often spent in Nova Scotia, where Marie developed her talent as a skilled landscape artist.
Later in life, Marie met and married Lenny Wodarczyk, in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. They eventually settled at Shell Point, where Marie became deeply involved in social clubs and community life. She generously volunteered in numerous capacities, including serving on the council at The Arbor at Shell Point. Marie especially enjoyed drumming classes, attending live performances, and proudly showcasing Shell Point's impressive art facilities to visitors.
An early riser, Marie loved morning walks and was always on the lookout for local wildlife. Her days were filled with kindness, service, and warm interactions. She spoke often and fondly of Shell Point, expressing great appreciation for its many offerings and sense of community.
Marie is survived by her devoted husband, Lenny Wodarczyk; her brother and his spouse, Bob Hammill (Bev); three of her children by marriage and their spouses, Beth Labib (Talaat), and George Schwartz (Liz), Andrew Wodarczyk (Donna); daughters-in-law, Mary Schwartz and Darlene Schwartz; nine grandchildren: Matthew Schwartz (Rebecca), David Schwartz (Emily), Michael Schwartz, Jason Schwartz, Alex Labib (Carlie), Samantha Wyckoff (Adam), Jessica Schwartz, Daniel Schwartz (Jordan), Holly Schwartz, Kristin Melvin (Zach), Kimberly Wodarczyk and nine great-grandchildren.
Beloved stepmother Marie was preceded in death by her stepsons Jack Schwartz and Mark Schwartz.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, 12171 Iona Rd, Fort Myers, Fl 33908, followed by interment. A luncheon will follow to celebrate Marie's life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made directly to St. Columbkille Catholic Church. www.stcolumbkille.com
