In Loving Memory of MARIETTA SKOURAS

November 24, 1930 – June 18, 2019

Contessa Marietta de Flemotomo Skouras, Orlando, Florida, went to her heavenly home on June 18, 2019 at Cornerstone Hospice after a courageous battle against cancer.  She was surrounded by her loving friends.

The Contessa Marietta de Flemotomo Skouras is the last descendant of a 900 year old family.  The name of the House of Flemotomo "recorded in the Libre Doro" appeared in 1264 in Venice, Italy..

An only child as was her father, Count Nicholas, Marietta received the title since there were no male heirs.  The Contessa Marietta graduated from an all girls' French boarding School on the Greek island of Naxos.  Upon completion of Finishing school, she studied at the Sorbonne in France.

After emigrating to the United States as a young woman, Contessa Marietta attended Columbia University with a focus on Fine Arts and English.  Her fluency in Greek, English, Italian and French as well as her exploration of the antiquities of her birth country led to her obtaining a position created for her by a family friend – the President of Pan American Airlines.

Little did Pan Am or Contessa Marietta realize what was awaiting her in New York.  She caught the attention of one of the world's most successful Greek business men, Spyros P. Skouras, President of 20th Century Fox.  Producer Buddy Adler was impressed with her many talents which were conducive to the film industry.  Her father received a call from Spyros Skouras requesting his blessing to sign Marietta to a seven year contract with Fox Studios.

The beautiful young starlet was off to California where she filled her days studying dance, drama, voice, acting and auditioning.  It was at this time that she auditioned for a role which enhanced her reputation – a movie called "Cleopatra."  She bore a striking resemblance to a famous actress who eventually played the part.

During a return visit to New York, she married Daniel P. Skouras.  The couple enjoyed decorating and entertaining in their eight homes around the world, and the family was made complete by the birth of their daughter Angelica.

Never one to shy away from political or philanthropic endeavors, The Contessa's work with the Republican Party was a result of her personal relationships with such friends as Paula Hawkins, Senator John Warner, Congressman John Mica and Jeb Bush, to name a few.

Her passions were:  travel, Theatre and the Arts,  decorating, and gourmet cooking, not to mention her impeccable flair for entertaining and attention to detail.  She and husband Daniel even hosted the Tuskegee Airmen.  Most people say she had a special "joie de vivre" which allowed many to view her many talents come to life.

In later years, she was proud of her accomplishments in operating an Etiquette and Protocol business training adults and children, her success as a Real Estate Agent, gaining friends around the world and the respect of her peers as a Top Producer in the Vacation Ownership Industry.

Anyone afforded the pleasure of meeting The Contessa Marietta will confirm that she made a joyous impression they would never forget.  She had an extraordinary being whose presence demanded attention.  Meeting her, one would understand and respect the faith and tradition she represented.  Upon her passing, she takes the 900 year old name of Flemotomo with her.

The Contessa Marietta Skouras is survived by her daughter, Angelica Skouras.
