Marilyn
Legg
Jan 10, 1940 — Oct 3, 2026
Marilyn Legg passed away on October 3, 2026. Marilyn, the daughter of Mary Elizabeth Hughes and Milton George Legg was born on January 10, 1940, in Memphis Tennessee.
Marilyn attended Central High School in Memphis and later Christian College in Columbia MO. Her first job out of college was as a flight attendant for United Airlines, thus starting her illustrious career. She also worked for Southern Airways where she was an admired flight attendant instructor and retired 40 years later with Northwest. She lived in multiple cities like San Francisco, Miami, New York and Atlanta but made Memphis her forever home to be closer to her mother and beloved stepfather, Raymond Hughes.
Though an only child, Marilyn grew up with her first cousins Jackie Roler and Martha Tews, who she considered sisters more than cousins. She was thought of as the “fun aunt” by Jackie and Martha’s children and grandchildren. Marilyn was also a devoted friend to many. She kept up with school age friends having lunch once a month. She spent holidays and special events with co-workers who became life-long friends. Lastly, she had her Palisade Street neighbors that she loved dearly. When asked, she would say her friends may not be blood relatives, but they were her family.
Marilyn’s children were her fur babies. She was an avid lover of all animals (except snakes) and rescued countless dogs and cats from Memphis shelters. Those who knew Marilyn would probably say that she liked her animals more than people!!
Marilyn was an amazing storyteller with a fantastic sense of humor. Her facial expressions could tell you all you needed to know without her saying a word.
Marilyn moved to Orlando FL in September 2024 to be closer to extended family who were truly blessed by her presence.
Marilyn’s ashes will be spread at a later date according to her wishes. If you would like to honor Marilyn, the family requests you make donations to a pet shelter near you.
