Obituary

Mark "Gus" Allen Ellis, 64, passed away on June 21, 2026, Father's Day, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy of love, generosity, and craftsmanship.

Born on September 3, 1961, in Rensselaer, Indiana to Carol Marie Ellis and Donald Wayne Ellis, Gus shared the same birthday as his father—a bond that remained special throughout his life. He was raised in Sarasota, Florida, where he developed the values of family, hard work, and perseverance that would define the man he became.

For 42 wonderful years, Gus shared a loving marriage with his wife, Lisa. Together they built a beautiful life and family, including the home he proudly constructed with his own two hands in Venice. That home became the heart of countless family gatherings, celebrations, and treasured memories.

Family was the center of Gus's life. He took immense pride in being a husband, father, and grandfather, and his greatest joy came from watching his family grow. He also treasured the friendships he built throughout his life, considering many of his friends to be an extension of his family. His generosity, dependability, and willingness to be there whenever someone needed him made him a friend people could always count on.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa Marie Ellis; his children, Jesse Allen Ellis, Kalyn Ann Vargas, and Amanda Marie Winemiller; his grandchildren, Michael Allen Neuman, Jace Allen Neuman, Easton Allen Ellis, Colton Wyatt Winemiller, Berkeley Ellis Winemiller, and Malea Marie Vargas; his mother, Carol Marie Ellis; his daughter-in-law, Michelle Ellis; his sons-in-law, Christian Vargas and Dorian Winemiller; his sisters-in-law, Lori Sylvester, Linda Button, and Kacey Narracci; his brother-in-law, Jonathan Narracci; his nieces and nephews; along with many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Gus was preceded in death by his father, Donald Wayne Ellis, affectionately known as "Pop," and by his brothers, Calvin Wayne Ellis and William Lee Ellis.

A skilled carpenter and contractor, Gus spent his life building—not only homes with his hands, but friendships, memories, and a family whose love will endure for generations. He was also a talented singer and artist. He believed life was meant to be celebrated and was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, sharing laughter and making memories.

Whether someone needed help with a project, a listening ear, or simply a friend, Gus was always there. His heart of gold, quiet strength, and willingness to help anyone in need are qualities that will never be forgotten.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Gus's life, share stories, and honor the incredible man he was.

Donations may be made in Gus's memory to St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, a charity close to the family's heart.

Though his presence will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the home he built with love, every country song, every Miami Dolphins game, every round of golf enjoyed, and every act of kindness inspired by his example.

Forever loved. Forever remembered.
