Mark
Kilmer
August 13, 1951 – February 3, 2022
Mark Aldin "Coach" Kilmer, 70 years old, of Oviedo/Winter Springs, Florida, passed away February 3, 2022, following a brief illness. Mark was born on August 13, 1951, to Shirley Elaine and Clyde A. "Bud" Kilmer in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mark was a devoted husband, proud father, faithful Christian, passionate patriot and defender of freedom. A Navy veteran, Mark was a member of BUD/s class 70 and served in UDT 21 and SEAL Teams 1 & 2. Mark was an avid skydiver amassing over 2300 jumps during his time as a SEAL and as a civilian. Following Hurricane Hugo in 1989, Mark moved to St. Croix to do salvage work. He met his future wife, Angela-Mia Phelan, on St. Croix in 1990. Mark and Angela-Mia went on to have two children, Elaine Nicole (Nicholas) Van Dam and William Aldin.
After a fifteen-year career in automobile and residential finance, Mark returned to the field working in various high-threat overseas locations supporting counter terrorism efforts and as anti-piracy security throughout Northern Africa and the Middle East. He also served as an Unexploded Ordinance (UXO) technician in the Middle East before he retired at 67 years old.
Mark never met a stranger. He encouraged people to be inquisitive and to always take a genuine interest in others, traits he personified. People were inspired by his outgoing personality and can-do attitude. Mark was always positive, no matter his circumstances. He met every challenge with "when things get better" not "if."
Mark was predeceased by his parents and his mother-in-law, Margaret Phelan. He is survived by his sister, Susan Kilmer (Thomas) Luniewski, father-in-law, William H. Phelan, Sr., brother-in-law, William H. (Stephanie) Phelan, Jr., sister-in-law Margaret Black (George) Norton, numerous nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.
Services will be held at First Baptist Church Longwood, 891 East SR 434, Longwood, Florida, 32750 on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at 4:00 pm. The family will receive visitors at the same location beginning at 3:00 pm. If so inclined, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mark's name to either the UDT-SEAL Association or the Navy SEAL Foundation
