Obituary

Mark Raymond Leiter, 72, formally of Avilla Indiana, passed away peacefully with family on January 28, 2026, in Florida, where he has resided for the past 4 years.

Mark was born on October 16, 1953 in Garrett, Indiana and graduated from East Noble High School in Kendallville, Indiana, in 1971. Shortly thereafter, he began a career that would span three decades with Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne, Indiana. As a journeyman electrician, Mark was known for his strong work ethic, skill, and dedication. He retired after 30 years of service, a milestone he took great pride in.

On October 19, 1974, Mark married the love of his life, Kimberly Jane (McClement) Leiter, beginning a marriage that spanned more than 50 years. Mark was a devoted father to his children: Amanda Ganswindt (Jeffrey), Calvin Leiter (Kelli), and Crystal Crossley. He was a proud grandfather to Nevaeh Crossley and Waylon Crossley, who brought him immense joy.

Mark was preceded in death by his father Ray Leiter, and by his birth mother, Margaruitte Schafer Leiter, who passed away when he was young.

Surviving him is his beloved mother, Patricia Leiter, along with his siblings: Roberta Hornett (Jeff Hammontree), Carmen Holbrook (Joe), Jeff Leiter (Lisa), Peggy Zilz (Paul), and Sam Leiter (Cheryl).

Mark will be remembered as a steady presence, a hardworking provider, and a man deeply devoted to his faith and his family. “It is not goodbye, it is see you later, if not in this life then in the next...See you later alligator!”

A celebration of life honoring Mark will be held at a later date in Indiana. Memorials may be given to assist students that need financial assistance attending church camp, a cause that Mark deeply valued and personally supported.
