Mark Richard Roadarmel
April 2, 1939 – February 15, 2019
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Roadarmel (79) on February 15th in New Smyrna Beach, FL after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mark was born in Albion, New York, to Catherine and Reverend Kenneth Roadarmel and brother to Paul (1943-1992) and Stan Roadarmel. After moving to Syracuse as a child, Mark later attended the Peddie School in New Jersey for high school and went on to graduate from Syracuse University (SU) in 1961. While at SU, Mark was a three-time letterman winner in lacrosse, wrestling and hockey and was a proud member of Phi Gamma Delta. Upon graduation, Mark enlisted in the US Navy where he served his country as an officer until 1965. In 1963, Mark married the love of his life, Pat Healy. After the Navy, Mark attended the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College where he received an MBA. In the 1970s, Mark started his own company, Mark Roadarmel Sales, where he represented well-known sporting goods brands such as Dexter Shoes, Rollerblade, STX and Louisville Slugger, a company his son John Roadarmel still runs today.
Mark was very proud of his association with Peddie, Syracuse and Dartmouth, attending many reunions over the years and devoting much time as Syracuse University alumnus to the SU Varsity Club. In 2012, Mark was the recipient of the Syracuse University "Letterman of Distinction"award and could be found most days of the year arrayed in blue and orange attire.
Through their 55 years of marriage, Mark and Pat balanced time as loving parents (in-laws) of John (Carrie) Roadarmel and Kellie (Matt) Gentile, and doting grandparents of Taylor and Logan Roadarmel and Boden, Grady and Emmery Gentile. Over the past few decades, you could find Mark at his three "happy places": Henderson Harbor (NY), Sugar Mill Country Club, or on the sideline of a sporting event watching his SU Orange, kids and grandkids compete.
We will be celebrating Mark's amazing journey, first in Florida, and later in Syracuse at a date to be determined.
