December 17, 1932 – September 19, 2023
Mrs. Marlene K Hermes, 90 year old, of Ocala, Florida, passed away at home on 19 September 2023.
She was born in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Ivey Caldwell Benfield and Nellie Mae Benfield (nee Bishop). She was pre-deceased by half-sister Helen Virgnia Hayes Phillips (Howard), (nee Benfield), of North Wilkesboro, NC.
She married Rudolph Stefan (Stefanic) of Cleveland, OH and had one child, Sharon K Sustar (nee Stefan), wife of Robert N Sustar. She was grandmother to J. Robert Sustar (Emily) of SC; Thomas M Sustar and Laurel L Sustar of OH. She was Nana to 3 great grandchildren.
She developed a personal relationship with the Lord, after she married Harold L Cohen, of Cleveland, OH, her husband of over 30 years. She and Harold enjoyed building homes, going to church, Bible Studies and boating. They were very involved in the ministry, 'Jews for Jesus'; members of Parkside Church, and very involved in their Senior Group. They moved to Boynton Beach, FL and attended Bible Town.
After Harold's death, she met Robert D Hermes, a widower, at the Boynton Beach, FL Hospice Grief Group and re-married.
Marlene was a descendant of American Revolutionary War Patriot, James Anderson, of Virginia and John A Bishop, a Virginia Confederate Soldier. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's school events, drawing house plans on graph paper, and was an architect of several homes in Ohio. She enjoyed attending Bible Study Fellowship, spending time with her family, playing Duplicate Bridge and Samba, and traveling. She acquired a love for Florida early in her life and eventually became a full-time resident.
