Obituary

Marlene A. Zanger (Fishbeck), 85, passed peacefully on Friday, January 24, 2025 in Fort Myers, FL after a nearly 17-year battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Marlene was born and grew up in Elmont, New York with her parents, Marion Ellicott (Williams) and John Herbert Fishbeck, and her sister, Evelyn Mae (Fishbeck) Scherrer. She graduated from Sewanhaka High School and attended the Fashion Institute of Technology.

In September, 1960, she was joined in marriage to David H. Zanger. Together, they moved to Mohegan Lake where they bought a home and raised their family. Marlene lived there for over 50 years. She worked for Air Express International in Stamford, CT for 33 years before retiring. Marlene and Dave were avid square dancers, belonging to a club called Mt. Pleasant Squares. She enjoyed music, dancing, spending days at Lake Mohegan and her family.

After her husband passed in 1995, Marlene continued her dancing journey by learning line dancing. This is where she met the second love of her life, Patrick Meehan. They were partners together over 20 years before he passed. They enjoyed dancing, boating and were both members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Marlene is survived by son, Jonathan Zanger (Celia), of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and daughter, Suzanne McAuliffe (Robert Waters) of Fishkill, NY and more recently Fort Myers, FL, as well as her grandson, Sean McAuliffe (Jennifer Fischetta) of Garnerville, NY and granddaughter, Taylor McAuliffe of Troy, NY. Other family members include a sister-in-law, Martha Zanger (Willow Toth), nephews Michael Cooper (Sharie), and Mark Cooper (Tricia), as well as great niece and nephews, Ariel Cooper, Noah Cooper, and Cameron Cooper, in Oregon. In addition, she has a niece, Sheila Bernstein, great nephew, Stephen Johnson, of Fort Myers, and a great niece, Shelby Bernstein, in Pennsylvania.

She was predeceased by her parents, sister, husband, and partner.

Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Marlene's name.
