Martha Ann Major
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Martha Ann Major of Oxford, Florida. Born on November 27th, 1933 in the town of Palmer, Massachusetts, Martha spent her formative years in the nearby town of Monson, MA.
She met the love of her life, Donald Francis Major, at Forbes and Wallace department store where they both worked. They were later married in June of 1953 and began a family the following year. Martha's greatest joy in life were her three sons, John (Jack), Timothy and Mark. Over the years that followed, the Major family moved about western Massachusetts throughout the 50's and 60's, finally settling down in Hampden in 1971.
Martha's greatest joy in life were her three sons, John (Jack), Timothy and Mark. With the boys married and on their own, Martha and Don moved to Ocala Florida in 1986 to begin a new chapter in their lives. The two spent more than decade enjoying their Florida retirement together until Don passed away in February of 1997.
Martha continued the Florida lifestyle on her own until she met Arthur (Artie) Wernersbach. Artie and Martha were wed in May of 2006. They enjoyed their retired life together and remained residents of Ocala until Arthur's passing in November of 2016. She remained in Ocala until May of 2024 when she moved to Steeplechase Retirement in Oxford FL where she spent the remainder of her life.
Martha was a woman of faith who loved the church and deeply believed in the power of prayer. Martha's favorite past time was watching and praying with Mother Angelica on the EWTN television network.
In addition to raising three sons over the years, Martha worked in retail for the Steigers and Forbes & Wallace department stores and as an office clerk the Mass Mutual insurance company in Springfield MA. She was an avid bowler, loved Bingo, crossword puzzles and enjoyed going out to eat, especially at the local Bob Evans.
She leaves behind her son John and his wife Annette, Timothy and his wife Liz and Mark and his wife Anna. Martha was the proud Grandma, Nana and Gram of four grandchildren, Raena, Dominick, Adrienne and Mia and six great grandchildren, Finn, Taylor, Jack, William, Logan and Ava.
Martha will be laid to rest along side of her husband Donald in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell Florida.
