Mary (Bommarito) Begbie, age 104, of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on July 18, 2025. Born November 19, 1920, in Detroit, MI, she was the third of five children of the late Paul and Angela (Scalisi) Bommarito.

Mary grew up in Detroit, Michigan, and graduated from High School in 1938. After high school, she went on to work for Wayne State University School of Medicine (Children's Hospital of Michigan) for over 42 years in a series of secretarial and administrative positions within the pediatrics department. For much of her career she was Secretary to the Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics and guided many medical students, residents, faculty, and staff in their educational pursuits and service to Children's Hospital.

While living and working in Detroit, she met Robert George Begbie in 1947. Mary and Robert married in 1948 and raised their two children in the Detroit area. They retired to Cape Coral FL in 1983 and remained married for 65 years until his death in 2013. Mary pursued her passions with great joy and enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading and vacation homes on Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. She lived a full life and is now at peace watching over her loved ones left behind.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bob. Survivors include her children, Robert George Begbie Jr. of Cape Coral, FL; Lynn Carole (Ron) Atkinson of Bonita Springs, FL; Grandson Robert George Begbie III and granddaughter Blair Catherine Begbie.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Hospice or a charity of your choice.
