Mary Margot "Maggie"
Buonarosa
May 4, 1938 — Jul 6, 2026
Mary Margot “Maggie” Buonarosa, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother, passed away surrounded by family and love on Monday, July 6, 2026, in Sarasota, FL.
Born in Braddock, PA, May 4, 1938, Maggie grew up with strong family values and a caring spirit that carried through her entire life. Upon graduating from high school in 1956, she enrolled in nursing school at St. Francis School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, PA. In 1957, she met a young newly discharged marine named Paul Buonaorsa on a blind date—a spark that grew into a marriage of more than 65 years. Maggie graduated from nursing school with a registered nursing degree in 1959 and she and Paul were married in 1960. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and deep devotion.
Maggie spent her more than 40-year nursing career in every health care setting: from the hospital, to family practice and finally as the director for quality assurance and credentialing for a large HMO. She did all this while raising a family, shuttling kids to various practices, maintaining close lifelong friendships and serving in various capacities in her church.
After years of raising their family in Pittsburgh, PA, Maggie and Paul retired to the Sarasota, Florida area in 2002, where they enjoyed the sunshine, community, and each other's company. They cherished adventures together including visiting Italy often, cruising, exploring the U.S., and celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in Ireland.
Maggie is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Buonarosa, and her parents, Albert and Margaret Pesta. She is survived by her three daughters, Michele Lewis, Mary Lynn Buonarosa, and Lisa Buonarosa; three granddaughters, Melissa Rice (Connor), Rebekah and Reina Spiegelman; and three cherished great-grandchildren, Elias, Ezekiel, and Emelina Rice; and her sister, Karen Wray.
To those who knew her, Maggie will be remembered for her love for the medical profession, her genuine caring spirit and her love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a good friend to many, including her friends at her assisted living facility. Her legacy of love and family endures in the generations who follow.
A celebration of Maggie’s life will be held at Light of the World International Church in Sarasota on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11am. Her burial will be private at the Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.
