Obituary

Mary Hennessy

Age 100

Mary Cresentia (nee McEntee) Hennessy passed away peacefully at home in Cape Coral, Florida on Thursday July 20th 2023 surrounded by her devoted family. Mary was born in Brooklyn New York to James and Catherine McEntee on November 15th 1922.

Mary is survived by her four children and their spouses, Maureen Hennessy of Oneonta NY, William and Eileen Hennessy of Delray Beach Florida, James and Diane Hennessy of Maryland NY, and Ellen and Joseph O'Connell of Cape Coral Florida. Mary married William J. Hennessy on September 7th, 1941. They were married for 58 years before William's death in 1999. Mary is also preceded in death by her grandson Ryan Rodrigues in 2003.

Mary was an avid reader and loved to write both poetry and short stories. She didn't have an opportunity to attend college when she was young, so she took many creative writing classes later in life. Many a night you would find her light on while reading or writing a story well into the early hours of the morning. She was always an integral part of a family that loved, honored, and adored her. She had an amazing sense of humor and a way of understanding just what her children needed. She was a wonderful Mom who taught us to respect others, be open minded, and to always be empathetic and kind. She was an only child who became a mother of four. She is survived by 9 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. We will forever miss her loving counsel and her wonderful hugs. We will always remember the lessons that she taught us and carry the love, laughter, and wonderful memories we shared throughout our lives!

Donations may be made in her memory to Hope Hospice of Cape Coral Florida through the site morehope.org under Tribute Gift.
