Mary Kathleen "Kathy" Cridland of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, formerly from Blanchester, Ohio, died at Glencoe's Haven Adult Family Care Home on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the age of 80 from natural causes related to Alzheimer's disease. Kathy was born in Chagrin Falls, Ohio in 1942 to Bruce and Helene VanDyke.

She held a Master's Degree in Education and taught Middle School Social Studies for over 30 years.  She was a member of the Methodist Church in Blanchester, Ohio and also served with the Ohio Education Association.  She was passionate about saving animals, especially dogs, and often did volunteer work for different shelters and animal societies.  She loved to travel the world, teach, and ride her bicycle.  She was part of GOBA, the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure and rode thousands of miles with them over the years.  Kathy is also a descendant of Harriet Beecher Stowe and was recognized by the Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

She had one Son, Mark Cridland, who passed away in 2012.  She is survived by her four grandchildren Skye Ernest, Rowan, Tristan and Samuel Cridland.

The family is having a small closed private service. They have also requested that in lieu of sending flowers, please plant a tree or make a donation to your local animal shelter or pet rescue.
