Obituary

With her loving family at her bedside, Mary Kay Catherine Hallman (née Martin), passed away May 2 in Florida at age 85. Mary Kay was born August 27, 1940, in Pittsburgh, where she remained until she married Robert William Hallman, of Philadelphia, on August 26, 1961. For 65 years, Mary Kay and Bob led an adventurous life, raising three children and living in Boston, Detroit, San Diego, New York City, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Las Vegas, and The Villages. A homemaker and office manager, Mary Kay assumed an executive VP position in the company she founded alongside her husband and sold in the 1980s. Mary Kay had a unique set of skills: she was a preternaturally kind listener and confidante, and at the same time a natural-born storyteller with elegant handwriting. With no prompt and less instruction, Mary Kay taught herself to play piano beautifully, and she had a lifelong passion for games, crafts, puzzles, and trivia. The brilliant star at the center of a whirling system of descendants who dearly miss her gravity, intellect, and warmth, Mary Kay is survived by her eternally loyal husband, and by daughter Amy Hallman Rice, sons Chris Hallman, Peter Hallman and wife Diana, granddaughter Cecelia, grandsons Jackson, Nathan, and Nick (and wife Carla), and great-grandson Roman. God speed, Mom, and don’t worry, we’ll keep an eye on the weather. Arrangements entrusted with BALDWIN BROTHERS Funeral & Cremation Society-Spanish Springs, 352-430-1449.
