Meyer Harvey

Mary Carolee Meyer Harvey, 95, of Naples, Florida, passed away December 11, 2020. Born April 17, 1925 in Carthage, MO., she was the daughter of Arthur Meyer and Vera Viola Meyer.
After moving to New England when she was 6 yrs. old, Mary grew up in Medford, Mass.,where she graduated from high school and then matriculated to Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. She studied the French and Spanish languages, and Speech. While attending Bates, Mary and Robert "Bobby" Kennedy became friends. Mary graduated from Bates College in 1947. Upon graduation from Bates, Mary chose to further her education at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC, from which she graduated in 1950. At the AADA Mary befriended several other students who later gained celebrity status, including Helen Hayes, Marlon Brando, Don Rickles and Grace Kelly, just to name a few. For more than a year following her graduation from the AADA, Mary became a traveling director of community theatre in many cities throughout the USA.
In 1951 Mary relocated to York, Pa. where she met and married her husband of 30 yrs., Richard Thomas Harvey. Richard passed away in 1981. Once Mary's children were school age, Mary began a career in education. She taught French, and was the Director of Choral and Dramatic programs at York Country Day School, York, Pa. Upon retirement, Mary and Richard enjoyed winters in Naples, Florida, which, a few years after Richard's passing, became Mary's permanent home. Mary was a member of the Moorings Country Club in Naples where she played many hours of Golf and Bridge while enjoying the company of friends.
For countless years, because of her love of theatre, Mary traveled to NYC to see all of the latest Broadway had to offer. On multiple occasions, Mary also traveled to Europe, specifically the Latin countries, where she studied and pursued research in European History and the Arts.
While residing and raising her family in York, Pa., Mary served on the Board of Directors and taught Sunday school at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. For 17 yrs. Mary also served as Treasurer of her condominium association at Windsor Court, Naples, Florida.
Surviving are daughters, Sandra (David) Harvey Hevner of Orlando, FL., and Margery (Keith) Harvey Griffith of Delray Beach, FL., son, Steven Harvey Schiding (Jolynn Brickner) of York, PA., grandson, Richard (Lyndsay) Harvey Hevner of Henderson, NV., and granddaughters Kara (Jonathan) Hevner Hughes of Orlando, FL. and Sydney Harvey Griffith of Florida.
A private, family memorial service has been scheduled. In lieu of flowers please donate to The Conservancy of Southwest Florida, 1495 Smith Preserve Way, Naples, Florida 34102. Baldwin Brothers Funeral & Cremation Society, Fort Myers, assisted with arrangements.
