It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Mary Connell Ranney Hagenbuch, who departed this life on September 23, 2026. Born on November 10, 1928, in Louisville, Kentucky, to James Connell and Erna Hansen, Mary lived a life rich in love, creativity, and community service.

Mary married the love of her life, Marvin Hagenbuch, and together they created a home filled with warmth and laughter in Cape Coral, where they spent their later years until Marvin's passing. Her legacy is lovingly carried on by her two daughters, Diane Bowie and Nancy Ranney, and her family that includes two grandchildren, Trey Meadows and Gina Young, four great-grandchildren, Paige Brown, Natalie Saavedra, Erica Freitas, and IV Meadows, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

A woman of exceptional talents and boundless energy, Mary owned and operated the Tree Gallery Shoppe in Naples and Fort Myers for 25 years. Her career was just one facet of her extraordinary life. She was a passionate advocate and the founder of several organizations, including Naples Planned Parenthood and the Ranney Chapter of the American Hibiscus Society, where she made her mark by writing the first show manual published by AHS.

Mary’s love for music was profound. She was a dedicated instrumentalist in the Bonita Village Band since 1996 and played the accordion, keyboard, and melodica with an infectious joy. Her musical talents extended to the Florida Accordion Band, Naples Concert Band, and the City of Fort Myers String Band, where she also served as the conductor.

Her creativity knew no bounds as she wrote and published five novels and numerous songbooks for bands, leaving an indelible mark on the literary and music communities. Twice listed in the Marquis Who’s Who in the World, beginning in 1998, Mary’s contributions were recognized globally.

Mary's life will be honored in a private family memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in her memory, reflecting her enduring spirit of giving and community service.

Her family wishes to express their deep gratitude to all who have shared in Mary’s remarkable journey. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
