Mary Lou (Morgan) Salerno, a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, teacher, and friend, passed away on September 2, 2026, at the age of eighty-four in The Villages, FL. She leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, faith, and lives touched through friendships, and a career as an educator.

Mary Lou was a graduate of West Scranton High School in Pennsylvania. During college, she met Tony, the love of her life. They grew up less than ten miles apart in the Lackawanna Valley, but they did not meet until they attended East Stroudsburg State College, where they earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. Their enduring partnership persisted as they embarked on their teaching careers, beginning in Belvidere, New Jersey, and later serving in Pennsylvania's North Pocono School District, where Mary Lou held the position of head of the middle school English department. Through her years in the classroom, she influenced and impacted countless young people.

In their retirement years, Mary Lou enjoyed time with her husband in Florida, and socializing with friends in the Harbor Hills and The Villages communities. She enjoyed country line dancing, attending live music events, and hosting holiday meals. In her later years, many summers were spent at a lake community in Tennessee, where her grandkids often vacationed making for lasting memories.

Mary Lou's faith was also central to her life. She regularly attended church, valued the fellowship and spiritual strength it provided, through which she supported a soup kitchen ministry. She was homebound for the past year, but grateful to continue attending Sunday services provided by a local minister for the residents of Watercrest Buena Vista.

She is survived by her loving family members, including her son Christopher (Giorgia and her daughter Rossella) of Capaccio Paestum, Italy; her daughter Jodee of Longwood, FL; grandsons, Michael Wresh of Orlando, FL, and Owen Wresh of Fruitland Park, FL, and a sister Kimberly Lyons of Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by her husband Anthony, parents William and Dorothy (Owens) Morgan, and her brother Bill Morgan.

A memorial service celebrating Mary Lou's life will be held on September 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Fairway Christian Church, Chapel. She will be privately interred at Christ Lutheran Memorial Garden in Summerfield, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations may be made in her memory to Cornerstone Hospice in appreciation for their support.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
