Obituary

Mary C. Winterwerp, 79, of Port Orange, FL and formerly of Brandywine, MD died Saturday, May 15, 2010 in Port Orange, FL.  Mary was born July 10, 1930 in Westwood, MD and raised on a tobacco farm there.  Upon graduation from Gwynn Park High School, she was recruited by the US Government to work with the CIA in Washington, DC.  Mary married the loved of her life, Carl J. Winterwerp on July 11, 1953.  They had three sons.  Mary then became a homemaker, caring for her husband and sons until the third son started school.  Mary went back to work for the US Government Census Bureau and retired after 20 years of service.  Mary was devoted to her family and adored her grandchildren.  She was actively involved with her church, Immanuel United Methodist Church serving on numerous committees and with the church's women's society.  Mary loved to travel, visiting most of the United States.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Gertrude Seger, granddaughter, Kristen, infant daughter of Francis and Eva Winterwerp, daughter-in-law, Debra Winterwerp and brother, Marvin Seger.  Mary is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Carl; three sons, Francis, Allen, Brian  and daughter-in-law, Eva; five grandchildren, Jessica, Kimberly, Laura, Wayne and Ashley and siblings, Eugene Seger, Anna Baden and Timothy Seger and wife, Mary.    In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Immanuel United Methodist Church, C/O the Treasurer, 13801 Martin Rd, Brandywine, MD 20613 or The Hospice of Volusia-Flagler, 2800 Woodbrair Trail, Port Orange, FL 32128.    A celebration of Mary's life will be held from 2-4PM, Sunday, June 6, 2010 at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 17400 Aquasco Rd., Brandywine, MD.
