Marylyn Mae Lyon was born Marylyn Mae Milster in Owosso, Michigan on April 17,1939. She passed away at home in Rotonda West, Florida on April 26, 2023. She was married in 1959 and had three children : Jeffrey Lyon of Portland, Mi., Cynthia Barrow of Evergreen, Co., and Karen Barnett of Rotonda West, Florida. She also had three grand children, Zachariah Lyon, Colin Barrow and Alexandra Mason as well as three great grandchildren Ellah, Konnar and Ezmae Lyon . She went back to college at age 40 and graduated from Michigan State University in 1987. She began her teaching career at Imlay City schools in Michigan. She obtained her Master's degree from Oakland University in 1989. She taught elementary special education for twenty years and loved her job. She had a love for the theatre and attended numerous plays in Detroit with her teacher friends. She also had a passion for gardening and had a beautiful yard with several gardens in her home in Lapeer. She retired from Imlay City schools in 2007 and built a house in Englewood, Florida where she would be near Karen and Cindy and their families. She cared for her mother in her home until she passed in 2010. Marylyn continued to substitute teach part-time in Sarasota County until 2020 when Covid came along. She was fortunate to travel with her children to England and Scotland as well as the Western US and Caribbean cruises. Her real passion was her dogs. She owned several Borzois as well as Golden Retrievers. She was a very devout Christian and was secure in her faith. Marylyn was a dedicated teacher, loving mother and devoted grandmother and will be dearly missed.
