Matthew (Matt) Yates, a proud Navy Veteran, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 11 ^th , 2023.

Born January 14 ^th , 1983, the son of Mark and Sherry Yates. Matt grew up in Newnan Georgia, where he graduated from high school in 2001. Matt then joined the U.S. Navy where he proudly served his country for 5 years. Matt was a loyal University of Georgia fan and could always be found watching the Dawgs on Saturday. He loved the ocean and sought peace in the waves. Matt was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5690 in Port Charlotte, FL where he held the office of Junior Vice Commander & Service Officer.

Matt is survived by his wife, Tracie and two children: Kaelie and Jackson, his parents Mark and Sherry Yates, his mother-in-law, Melody Whitley. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and the best friends anyone could ask for.

Matt is preceded in death by his grandparents and father-in-law.

Friends may join the family on Saturday, January 21 ^st starting at 1 pm at the VFW Post 5690, 23204 Freedom Ave, Port Charlotte, FL 33980.
