Maureen Anne
Cusack
July 26, 1954 – May 29, 2026
CUSACK, Maureen A. (McConnell), of Casselberry and Ponce Inlet, Florida, age 71, passed peacefully at home with her loving husband, Joseph “Jay” Cusack, and daughters, Kelly and Erin Cusack by her side on May 29, 2026. Mighty Mo fought valiantly over the last few years after being diagnosed with clear cell endometrial cancer. Through treatments, hospitalizations, setbacks, and breakthroughs Mo persevered with a smile on her face as she continued to shout, “I’m one tough Irish B!”
Maureen was born in Chester, Pennsylvania on July 26, 1954 an only child to Gertrude and William “Bill” McConnell. Mo was resilient, creative, and built deep meaningful friendships. Even though she was an only child she was surrounded by her cousins (Marianne Flanagan, Eileen Lott, Larry Murray, and Marie Mullarkey) whom she adopted as her siblings.
Maureen was a devoted wife to Jay and they celebrated forty-five years of marriage on April 25, 2026. Mo and Jay (MoJo) met at the Jersey Shore and they shared a love for live music – in fact their first date was to see John Prine, Maureen’s favorite artist. The couple first lived in the Philadelphia area. Little did Maureen know she was marrying into the Cusack Clan as Jay had five sisters and one brother, along with 55 first cousins. They all chartered a bus from Dedham, MA and headed down to celebrate the nuptials in true Cusack fashion with a banner on the outside that said, “Philly or Bust” and “Going to the Chapel.” The couple moved to Casselberry, Florida in 1982 where they established great friendships that became a close-knit chosen family.
Mo was a loving mother to Kelly Cusack and her husband Adam Rounds of Norwood, MA, Erin Cusack and her partner Troy Lassahn of Orlando, FL. Grandmother to Oliver and Maisie Rounds, the loves of her life second only to Jay. Best known as Momo to her grandkids, she shined in their presence and loved watching them grow.
In 2017, Maureen and Jay retired to Ponce Inlet, Florida where their circle of friends expanded. They could be found at the local waterfront spots for happy hour enjoying live music and a cold beverage. Mo and Jay loved to travel, and they were fortunate to have many experiences. They visited Italy, Germany (for Oktoberfest), Switzerland, Austria, France and Ireland. Most of all, they loved to cruise with their grandkids and were loyal to Royal. Mo loved her four cats and a good meal she didn’t have to cook!
She is survived by her brothers and sisters: Michael and his wife Rhonda of Mission Viejo, CA, Christine Cummings and her husband John, Eileen Wagner and her husband Jack, Mary Ellen McDonough and her husband Brian, and Leslie Cusack, all of Dedham. Maureen is predeceased by her favorite “sister” Karen Birkett of Norton, MA. One of Karen and Mo's greatest joys was their shared love of Broadway. They could often be found singing show tunes together, filling the room with laughter, enthusiasm, and only an occasional brush with the correct notes. Mo also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews, and countless cousins and friends.
There will be a celebration of Maureen’s life at a later date when everyone can gather together around a karaoke machine and sing loud enough for her and Karen to join from above.
In lieu of flowers please make donations in Maureen’s name to American Cancer Society.
