Obituary

Maurice S. “Moe” McLaud, 92, of Lady Lake, Florida, passed away on Friday May 29, 2026 at Cornerstone Hospice in The Villages.

Born on October 9, 1933, in South Kortright, New York, Moe was the son of Elmer L. and Lydia G. Shepard McLaud. He lived life with an adventurous spirit, always ready for the next opportunity—whether it was a new job, a new place to call home, or new friends to share the journey with. Over the years, he formed countless friendships through the American Legion, The Moose Club, and the Water Oaks Community in Lady Lake, where he spent many happy days.

A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Moe served his country from 1952 to 1956. He married the love of his life, Carolyn J. Peet, on July 14, 1954, and together they shared 49½ years of marriage. He had a distigushed career with NYSEG for over 25 years working in Oneonta, Bainbridge, and Somerset, NY. He also was a member and Past President of the Laurens American Legion, Post 1688.

Moe is survived by his sons Kevin (Lynn) McLaud and Eric (Doreen) McLaud, his daughter Deborah Hyde, his grandchildren Elizabeth Kockler, Charles McLaud, Julie Michella, and Eric McLaud, along with great-grandchildren Elliot, Violet, Leo, and Wes. He is also survived by his sister Joyce Broe and brother David (Barbara) McLaud along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn; his son David; his daughter Karen; and his siblings Harriet, Donald, Douglas, Sylvia, Marilyn, and his twin brother Morton.

Honoring his wishes, no services will be held. His ashes will be released into the ocean he loved so deeply on Sunday Evening June 21, 2026 at Canaveral National Seashore, New Smyrna Beach, Fl.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Moe’s dear friends in the Water Oaks Community—Linda Burtt, Caroline Sanders, and Nancy Benjamin—for their kindness, companionship, and the joy they brought to his final years. The family also wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Cornerstone Hospice of The Villages, Florida, for the exceptional care, compassion, and comfort they provided to Moe in his final days as well as the Healthcare Aides from the Veterans Administration who were a vital part of his living in Florida.

Arrangements were entrusted to Baldwin Brothers in Lady Lake, Florida.
